Extracting Sentences
Architecture Foundation, 2024
digital with printed drafts, 210 x 297mm
This essay was a collage. It used an existing text from the Architects’ Journal Vol.187 by extracting sentences and details, and writing around them. The existing text was the Building Feature, a form of article that the Architects’ Journal published regularly as a form of well-written and illustrated critique on recently completed building projects. This feature was about Liverpool’s Tate of the north, and the 1984 renovation by the architectural practice, Stirling & Wilford. The text I wrote builds a conversation between the original critque by Richard Weston and the new understanding of the building by 6a architects who, in 2023, were commissioned to refurbish the building.
