Acts of Protection
Folly Journal 01, 2024
printed, 175 x 251mm
A written and photographic essay which documents trees undergoing protection during demolition and construction works in London. The essay describes the shared and individual methods towards tree protection found in these cases and argues that statute around tree preservation should be made more specific to tree species, age and habitat. As far as planning laws go, trees are currently protected in the interests of amenity only.
This essay was written in response to ‘loss’, the focus of Folly Journal 01, an architectural journal that captures agricultural building, community projects, environmental concerns and lost buildings and practices.
